INSTALL / OVERVIEW
Choose your DNS Deny installation
Build DNS Deny for the machine you own. Choose a processor architecture, then a Debian package, a standalone executable, or a local Docker build.
1. Choose your architecture
AMD64
Intel and AMD 64-bit PCs, servers, and virtual machines.
Build for AMD64 AARCH64 / LINUXARM64
64-bit ARM servers and Raspberry Pi systems with a 64-bit OS.
Build for ARM64 ARMV6 / 32-BIT LINUXPi Zero
The original Zero and Zero W, with a smaller resource preset.
Build for Pi Zero2. Choose how to install
Debian package
An executable, seed configuration, dashboard assets, and service integration.
Build a .deb MANUAL DEPLOYMENTSingle binary
Choose features and manage the service yourself. Dashboard assets travel separately.
Build an executable CONTAINER DEPLOYMENTDocker Compose
Build the image from source and keep configuration in a persistent volume.
Use Docker3. Include what you need
| Build | Native command | Includes |
|---|---|---|
| Full | make build-release | Dashboard + JSON API |
| Dashboard only | make build-release-no-api | HTTP dashboard; no external JSON API |
| JSON API only | make build-release-api-only | JSON endpoints; no dashboard |
| Resolver only | cargo build --release --no-default-features | DNS; set api_enabled = false |
The suffix no-api means dashboard only: its HTTP admin server remains included. Scoring is optional with --features feat-scoring.
Not sure which architecture?
uname -mx86_64 usually maps to AMD64; aarch64 to ARM64; armv6l to the original Pi Zero. Confirm the OS userspace too: a 32-bit OS needs a matching 32-bit build even on a 64-bit processor.
Keep your configuration
Update the binary or container without deleting saved state. The deployment guide covers the first start and safe upgrades; the configuration guide explains which changes need a restart.
